Smart's Fun Familia 2013 Part 3: Trails to Antartica and Sea Lion Show

Hi! This is the 3rd installment of our tale about the Smart Fun Familia 2013 at Manila Ocean Park. I know, I know it's been ages since I have shared the first and second part of this tale. Please bear with me and find below official press release on said attractions:

Trails to Antartica
"Manila Ocean Park is proud to introduce the first and only penguin park facility in the country.  Trails to Antarctica: The Penguin Quest brings you closer to the coldest and most mysterious place on earth. Take a journey to discover a world like no other. It features a walk through exhibit where you can learn more about the frozen continent, live Humboldt penguins in the Penguin Exhibit,  an ice slide called Slide O' Fun and a freezing Snow Village. All these in one exciting adventure zone for the whole family."
Sea Lion Show
"Meet the adorable sea lions of South America as they bring you valuable information on environmental conservation. It is also a fantastic show for all, highlighting their special skills and unique characteristics. You can also check out where the sea lions live in Marine Life Habitat, a bi-level viewing facility with cool rock formations."
Hope you'll find our personal experience helpful and encouraging, feel free to read on:

Trails to Antartica: Trails to Happiness

Left: LP waiting for their turn on the boat ride;top right:stairs to 2nd floor attractions;middle right:LP and Lolo Tatay at the boat ride and bottom right: patiently waiting for our turn.

From the Oceanarium, we took the connecting stair to the Trails to Antartica which also lead to the Fish Foot Spa and the Boat Ride. We were surprised with the long line of those waiting to experience the Antartica. LP, being a bit impatient insisted on riding the Boat Ride while we stay on the line. His Lolo Tatay and Tito Ninong A joined him.

At the entrance we were greeted by a huge signage, some standees for photo-ops and information on surviving a trip in Antartica.

The look-alikes enjoying the photo standee :)
Finally, after a more few minutes, we were able to enter the Antartica. We were not able to try the Slide O'Fun, for one, only those 4" feet above are allowed to slide, to the dismay of the little cubs and two, the line was pila balde, as in. It was almost lunch time and we wanted to maximize our time to see the next sea lion show which was about to start by 2pm. We were in a hurry but have still managed to appreciate the main feature, these lovely creatures, the Humboldt penguins. They are graceful swimmers and my little ones feel in love with them.

love at first sight
After saying goodbye to the penguins, we entered the Snow Village and captured precious memories in a freezing room with man-made snowman and birch trees. The kids loved the feel of snow and even if its summer, we felt how it was like to have a white Christmas.
Warmth of a loving family
The Snow Village was the exit attraction of the Trails to Antartica and after a few minutes in the cold, we decided to warm ourselves with a hearty lunch of Inasal and Pancit Molo.

The Sea-Lion Show

We were able to arrived on time for the Sea Lion Show. I don't know but I think lady luck was on our side, my youngest sister R was chosen as the special guest of Vincent and Sandra, the star performers of the show:

Sealed with a Kiss

Just a thought...

I know some would say this is animal maltreatment and that they should be freed in their natural habitat. I respect the opinion but come to they of it, they are more vulnerable in the wild di ba? I don't know, they become extinct because they are either hunted or their habitat are being destroyed. I just hope that the management of Manila Ocean Park would really take care not only of the fishes and other marine creatures but also of the penguins, the sea lions and the birds that bring joy to both children and those young at heart not just because they get profit from it. I appreciate that they inform people of the current situation that these creatures face but it would also be honorable if they treat them with much respect and appreciation as seen in the eyes of the hundreds of onlookers that visit their water themed park every day.

It was a sulit day and I know that my cubs enjoyed it so much. We ended the day by the sunset and the  happiness of having a family <3
